I have a few questions regarding workhouses in Lancashire, most likely those in Bury, Burnley, Bolton and Rochdale, although other areas might also be possibilities.
I'm following 15 year old Alice Howarth who arrived in Port Chalmers, NZ in 1874. Her name might have been Margaret Alice Howarth or Alice Margaret Howarth. I appreciate her age of 15 mightn't be completely accurate but this would suggest a date of birth around 1858-1859. According to GRO UK, there is an Alice Howarth b. Sept quarter in the Burnley Union with no maiden name for the mother. There is another Alice Howarth b Nov 5 1861 Bolton Union. Were both of these children born in a workhouse? The 1861 birth is outside of my search area, but might work is the girl on the passenger list said she was 15 but was younger. The only Margaret Alice Howorth I can find is 1859, mother's maiden name Nuttall b. Elton, Bury.
Would appreciate any and all help with thanks in advance.
Glenda
