Nothing in 1871 but I notice from the 1881 that they had also been in Gibralter and Malta as well as Ireland which may be why you can't find them in earlier censuses

No children on the 1881 were born in England

Have you checked the 1881 census to see if they were father and son?

Does freebmd show 2 birth entries?

How old was the Robert who died in 1953 when he died as that will give a clue to his birthyear

Have you checked the 1901 census to see how old the Robert was who married in 1899

Have you checked freebmd marriages for the christian names of Miss Acland

Do you have a copy of William's marriage certificate as that will show his fathers name

I've checked the 1851 census and there are 9 possible entries in the age range of + or - 2 yrs either side of 1839  but none b Burrington

There are quite a lot of John Jones with that age range living in Shropshire but only one living in Dawley

As it is a large family - before I post details can you give some further info

His birthplace
His wifes name and birthplace
Any children likely to still be at home

If you have 1851 info - please include details
