Hertfordshire / Historic Cheshunt by Charles Percy Archer - Bellamy
« on: Tuesday 09 April 13 09:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Does anyone out there have a copy of Charles Percy Archer's "Historic Cheshunt"?  I think there might be some important information in it with regards to the Bellamy family and was going to ask if anyone with a copy would be kind enough to look a few bits up for me.
Thanks in advance

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / St Mary Rotherhithe marriages
« on: Tuesday 02 April 13 18:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm wondering if someone can do a look up for me on the St Mary Rotherhithe parish register for a marriage between a Joseph (Josiah) Bellamy and Elizabeth ... probably somewhere between 1743 and 1747.

He may be listed as being from Cheshunt in Hertfordshire or possibly Charles Parish, Plymouth, Devon.

Unfortunately, I can't find anything through the usual routes.

Thanks in advance  :)

England / Name variations - help please
« on: Tuesday 19 March 13 11:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Can anyone tell me whether Josias/Josiah is sometimes varied to Joseph in older parish records (17th/18th Centuries).  And the the same for Garthred ... can this sometimes be varied to Gertrude?

Thank you in advance
 :)

Devon / BELLAMY of Plymouth - help needed!
« on: Monday 18 March 13 19:12 GMT (UK)  »
I'm really hoping someone out there can help me complete a critical part of the jigsaw!

I have a family tree relating to George Bellamy MD of Plymouth (1773-1863) and I need help connecting the middle section of the tree.  It may well be correct but I have no evidence.

This is what I have:

Edward Bellamy (died 1656 St Magnus the Martyr, London) = Mary Cole
Issue:
Edward Bellamy (died 1667 St Magnus the Martyr, London) = Mary Adis (sp?)
Issue:
Edward Bellamy (born 1657 St Magnus the Martyr, London) = unknown
Issue:
Joseph Bellamy (dates unknown; Merchant of Plymouth) = Garthred Mitchell (marriage took place 1707 Charles the Martyr, Devon)
Issue:
George Bellamy (1713-1798) = Mary Winefred Foster

So ... this is where I have a problem ...
I have the last Edward being born but then I lose him ... I don't know who or where he married, or his children (including Joseph (I think sometimes referred to as Josias)).  There was obviously a move from London to Plymouth at one point but whether that was Edward or Joseph, I don't know.

I desperately need the help of some more experienced genealogists than me on this puzzle.

All and any help very much appreciated!!!

Thank you in advance

London and Middlesex / Jean (Jane) Young wife of John Imray - puzzled!
« on: Friday 15 February 13 16:12 GMT (UK)  »
I am hoping that there is somebody out there who is far more experienced at unravelling puzzles than I am because I need your help!
So these are the facts that I DO know ....
1) John Imray (1820-1902), patent attorney and founding member of Abel & Imray, born Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, son of the Rev. John Imray.
3) In 1837 he comes to London
2) 1846 he marries Jane Guppy Trenchard in Edinburgh and they have a daughter, Catherine, born 1847
3) Jane dies in 1848
4) John (widower) and his daughter Catherine appear on the 1851 census as 'visitors' to Jean (aged 22) and David (aged 19) Young at Pope's Villa, Cross Deep, Twickenham
5) He marries Jean in 1851 in Longside and goes on to have many other children.
6)  1842 Thomas Young, tea merchant, builds a house on the site of Pope's Villa in Twickenham. (Is this Thomas, Jean and David's father ... one would assume so)
7) Thomas dies in 1851
8) Jean (sometimes appearing as Jane) dies in 1904 in Essex

Ok, so this is where I need some help from you lovely people.  I cannot find, for love nor money, a record of Jean's (Jane's birth) or David's or a birth, marriage or death for Thomas, or indeed any of them on a census record (other than that of 1851).  As a novice, I'm probably just doing something wrong, but all and any help very gratefully received  ???

Antrim / McGowan/Thompson? Antrim - help!
« on: Monday 11 February 13 21:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I am really hoping there is someone out there who can help me!  My great-great-grandparents were Robert McGowan (1847-1900) and Ellen (Mary) Thompson (I think).  Both were born in Antrim and moved to the Manchester/Lancashire area somewhere between 1874 and 1877.  Other than that I can find nothing about them.  Sadly my grandmother passed away a couple of years ago and all I have are 'stories' to help me find them.  I was told that Ellen's mother was Grace Thompson (maiden name possibly O'Boyle) and that the Thompsons were connected to the Macauleys (sp?) and something to do with solicitors in Belfast.  I have some truly wonderful stories about them and just want to put it all into context for my daughters.
Thank you in advance for any help!

Devon / George BELLAMY MD/Admiral Sir George Somers - Long shot!
« on: Saturday 09 February 13 16:50 GMT (UK)  »
Ok, so this may be a long shot but I am desperate to find the connection between Admiral Sir George Somers and George Bellamy MD of Plymouth.  I have found reference to them being connected through a 'collateral descendent' but cannot actually find the connection.
All and any help very gratefully received!

Kincardineshire / Imray/Memess (Memmes?) help!
« on: Friday 08 February 13 14:54 GMT (UK)  »
I'm really hoping someone can help!  I have found my greatx4 grandfather, the Reverend John Imray, minister of Longside Parish, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire and he married a Catherine Memess (Memmes?), born somewhere between 1779 and 1781 in Stonehaven, Kincardineshire, in December 1816.  I cannot find a record of either their marriage (and where it took place) or Catherine's birth.  John's father was James Imray, a carpenter in Aberdeen.  This tree is a gift for someone and I would dearly love to take it back as far as possible.  Any and all help very gratefully received!
