Berkshire / Coleman/Belcher marriage
« on: Saturday 17 August 24 16:30 BST (UK)  »
A contact has seen the birth certificate of William George Coleman 24 sept 1908 at Easthampton parents William Arthur Coleman and Florence nee Belcher.

I have a Florence Belcher born Binfield 1880  but I cannot find a wedding  or any thing after the 1901 census for my Florence to see if she became Mrs Coleman
Can anyone help to find a marriage or anything else to prove or disprove the link
Thank you

Oxfordshire / Meals of Cornwell?
« on: Sunday 14 July 24 21:53 BST (UK)  »
There is only one place where I have found Ann Meals my 6xgt grand mother and that was in 1739 when she married Edward Faulkner in Cornwell. The couple then went on to have 10 children baptised in Combe.
I am wondering if the surname was accurately reported, and was she originally from Cornwell? Can anyonehelp find any other records of her before the marriage
Many thanks for any help

The Common Room / Multiple names!!
« on: Monday 24 October 22 09:47 BST (UK)  »
I have found a photograph of my Great Grandmother in a criminal register. Under it there are four different surnames for her I am aware of three of the names as her maiden name her married name (she was a widow) and the name of her partner ( my grandfathers father) at the time of her arrest but the fourth name is a total mystery and was the one she was charged under. (From the newspaper item about her crime. The first name under the photo was not this one.) As all the namesare with the photo there must be a record showing how they were known. How can I find any other documentation about her record ?
Can anyone suggest how I can find out about the mysterious fourth name?
At the time of her arrest my grandfather was 15 months old how can I find out what happened to him? A few years later his mother died in the workhouse and he went  into a cottage home.

World War Two / Identifying a service record
« on: Saturday 16 July 22 17:16 BST (UK)  »
Is it possible to find which unit a man served in in WW2 given I only have the following very sparse information?

Name Norman PRATT
born 23 Sep 1919 Birmingham son of John George Pratt and Maria nee Hall
service number 1884211   from a message home
Served in the desert  written on  the back of one photo has desert rat 1942 it the photo shows him in an open neck shirt
1939 he was a plumber

There  is very little else ...one cousin thinks he served with the RASC and an elderly sister thought he may have been a POW in Italy  but dates and other familymembers don't seem to agree with that!
