Caernarvonshire / Bethesda football team
« on: Monday 20 June 16 21:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

Could anyone help or point me in the right direction please.

We (my family) think my Taid played football for Bethesda (United, Comrades, Victoria or Athletic?)
His name was Keith Williams (or Glasspoole, he changed his name) He was born in 1911 so i'm thinking in the 1930's or 40's. He was from Brynteg/Coedpoeth near Wrexham.

Are there any records kept for an amateur football team. Could I find out which years he played. whether they won anything significant in those years etc?

It's a fair way to travel these days from Wrexham to Bethesda never mind in the 30/40's but my Dad remembers a car being sent for him every Saturday to play football and he seems to think Bethesda.

Thanks

Hi Grumpyling

Blimey so excited that someone replied to this. Where do I start? My Taid (Grandfather) was born in Shrewsbury in 1911 named Keith Glasspoole (mother- Ellen, Catharine or Nellie glasspoole. father unknown. She was married at the time to Richard William Glasspoole of Liverpool. If my research is correct, Ethel Cecilia was his older sister.

My family knew nothing of this other family of Ellen/Nellie/Catherine until I started to research our family tree a couple of years ago but all the info I have all fits. So my main question really is do you know who Keith's father was (obviously not Richard as Father unknown) and why he was born in Shrewsbury and very shortly after went to live near Wrexham. And even more importantly why did she leave a daughter behind. Did you know any of this, were there any family stories? I have a theory but thats probably best put in a private message.

I also have loads of info on the Glasspoole family if you need any.

Thanks again
Laini

Hi
Probably a long shot but are there any descendants out there tracing a Glasspoole family from Liverpool, particularly if your surname is Manley. I have all I can find of the tangible stuff ie Census etc. I am just trying to verify a family story and you may be able to help.

Thanks

The Lighter Side / Re: WDYTYA on YouTube

You will also find WDYTYA from other countries too. Saw a South African one the other day and it was packed full. It managed to go down quite a few branches and touched on most topics uncovered, just enough to not get bored but still informative. It didn't spend a whole programme on one ancestor or try to make ice cream. I really enjoyed even though I hadn't a clue who the young chap was.
It was more like uk original format

Hi Allen

William Henry Bunn was born in Peldon Essex around 1811. His father was Henry Bunn and his mother may have been Mary Backwith or Mary Sowell. From Parish records of the area, the name Henry went back a further few more generations in and around the Peldon and Abberton area (at least 3) I think W.H also had a brother called Henry and another called John. W.H. married Emma Williamson in Limerick, Ireland. If you have any info on this marriage I would be grateful.
From 1841 census, Henry & Mary living on Mersea Road, occupation - ag lab.

William went into the army and served in the St Helena Reg (after Napoleon died) then in 55th reg of foot in the first chinese opium war, then in Ireland in the 1840s. From there he ended up in Wrexham as sergeant in the Wrexham Militia (Royal Denbighshire Rifles)

Hi

Does anyone know where the Star & Garter Hotel was/is in Liverpool. I have a relative living there on 1911 census.
