World War One / Re: Can anybody help explain a WW1 Medal Index Card ?
« on: Sunday 22 September 19 10:15 BST (UK)  »
I guess that there is probably another medal card for William? He would have been awarded the Victory and the 1914-1918 medals. Perhaps this card was raised when he claimed the gratuity in 1943?

Carmarthenshire / Re: Which Anne married David Ambrose in Llandeilo fawr in Q1/1847?

Well Bevbee, we are cousins! The connection is through you Anne Ambrose nee Thomas. I suspect that she is the sister of David Thomas who is my 2xgreat-grandfather David Thomas (1836-1920). So Thomas Thomas (1809-1877) is our most recent common ancestor.

I found the connection through Ancestry DNA. There are a few shared matches back to the Rees/Reese line but one of them is the mother of a cousin still living in Carmarthenshire.

I will send you my email address via a PM.

CHeers!

David is a carpenter and he and Anne raised their family in Llangethen. There two Annes registered at the same time:

Anne Davies
Anne Thomas

My maternal grandfather was a Thomas. My maternal grandmother was a Davies.

Why should it be easy ::)

World War Two / Re: Trying to find which beach our father landed on ON D Day pls

My father's Pioneer Company landed on Juno Beach in support of the Canadians. In fact, he never made it off the beach but survived. His army record provided useful information plus a visit to Kew for the unit's war diary.

Well keyboard86, that is an "interesting" question. I wrote twice to the person who matches as a suggested 3rd cousin but received no reply. He's in my tree but since he is "living" his details won't appear.

I don't wish to be genealogically 'pushy' so that's why I've started with his maternal grandparents.

DNA results will tell me if there is another test out there who is a DNA match with me. It will sometimes identify other tests that share some of the same DNA. My maternal cousin's is one such shared match hence the elimination of the paternal line.

If the matching person has uploaded a tree, I might be able to identify either a shared ancestor or someone close (same village, etc.) but in this case there is no tree to compare with mine.

I don't wish to keep filling this thread with "thank yous" but I really am very grateful for all your help in both threads. It has helped enormously.

I just need to find the missing link to my tree... still.
