Ah - you very clever people, thank you! So it looks as though Titsink was the real name of this family and they weren’t originally from south of the river. Probably not connected with my Titsons, then. But I will bear this surname in mind if my search for William Titson’s father continues to be fruitless!

Hello all

George John Titson (indexed TITSONK in the typed GRO register, apparently in error) married Phoebe Simmons in Lambeth, Dec qtr 1907.

They had a son, Reginald Titson, in late 1911 whose birth was registered in Lambeth, Mar qtr 1912. He was baptised as Reggie Titson at All Saints, South Lambeth, on 22 Dec 1911. Abode was 41 Jeffreys Rd which was a maternity nursing home, so not the family’s usual address.

I have no evidence at the moment of being related to these people, but Titson is a very rare surname and I am hoping they may link somehow to my own Titsons from South London (my earliest known Titson is William, c1802-1848, of Southwark).

If anyone can find any records of George John Titson and/or his family members other than the records I have mentioned, I’d be grateful.

From his marriage on 15 June 1841

If you’ve seen that Lambeth marriage record (bride was Sarah Harper) you will know that his father was listed as John Fryer, boot maker. Both bride and groom were said to be living in East St at the time of the marriage. The 1841 census date was 6 June, so only a week or so before the marriage.

There is a 20 year old Maria Collumbell, silk winder, in Normanton Rd, Derby in the 1841 census.

A different Maria Collumbell died in St Alkmund, Derby, Sep qtr 1842 aged 46.

For that particular baptism ancestry has transcribed the mother's name as Maria Whimbele and as maria Columbell

Henry Collumbell died aged 0, Mar qtr 1840 Derby 9 444.

In an Ancestry tree you can flag an individual as unverified if you want. My own view is that it’s best to keep hypothetical lines in, suitably marked, so that you can get the best of out the AncestryDNA algorithm which may (if you’re lucky) provide evidence to strengthen or disprove a hypothesis.

Update to this old thread: I have now found a mysterious Mary Ann Calendon, discharged from St Pancras Workhouse aged 1 week on 29 Dec 1856 “taken out by friends”. Nothing more.

It’s slim pickings with these people!

Thanks to all for help.

Giving considerable leeway, this baby may have been the child registered Pancras Dec qtr 1856 as Emma Calender, and her mother may be the Sarah Callender who died aged 25, Pancras Dec qtr 1856. Possibly a complete red herring.
